Summary

Bolivia's civil procedure reform introduced prior conciliation and made the conciliator responsible for reaching an agreement and for preventing the case from moving into full ordinary proceedings. The monograph studies, from theory and doctrine, what profile this role requires in order to genuinely help reduce court backlogs. It draws on the Código Procesal Civil (Ley 439) and on the culture of peace. It is useful for those who design the training and selection of conciliators and for those who study alternative methods in Bolivia.
