Summary
Reviews the main aspects of criminal mediation since the adversarial criminal justice system was introduced in Panama. Drawing on national and international literature, current legislation and case law, it argues that mediation makes it possible to resolve conflicts peacefully, fosters a culture of peace, shortens timeframes and avoids going to oral trial, which improves access to justice. It is useful for students, prosecutors, defence lawyers and those who practise criminal mediation in Panama.
