Summary

An article in which the author, from Víctimas por la Paz, reflects on restorative justice as the crossing point between the public and the private: a civil society organization that works outside the Judiciary but in coordination with the State. She argues that the needs of those who are protagonists of the conflict are what the judicial structure attends to least, and calls on practitioners for a different training and attitude: listening, empathy, flexibility, and absence of prejudice. She develops two cases: one in which the victim is a State institution and another with surrogate victims and offenders. It is useful for those who design restorative programs with community participation.
