Summary

A participant in all seven editions of the International Tribunal for the Application of Restorative Justice in El Salvador reviews this civil society initiative, promoted by the Idhuca and a network of victims' committees. It describes how victims of serious human rights violations called for closeness, social recognition, truth, justice and reparation in a context of impunity, and how the Tribunal complemented the work of the Truth Commission. It is useful for those studying restorative justice applied to crimes against humanity and for those designing reconciliation policies.
