Summary
A chapter that examines the Peruvian criminal justice model, centred on punishment, and the restorative justice model, and argues that the latter can complement the former. The author notes that the system addresses what society expects of punishment, but not always the needs of specific victims, and that financial compensation is not the only way to make amends for harm. It sets out how a restorative perspective would make the criminal and prison system fairer for the victim, the person who caused harm and the community.
