Summary
It analyses how a new institutional framework was built in Uruguay to assist and protect victims and witnesses of crime, following the implementation of the Código del Proceso Penal. It explains that the shift from the inquisitorial model to an adversarial, oral and public one places victims in a position previously unknown to them. It studies the services and rules that guarantee their rights within the process. It is useful for those working in victim support and for those studying the place of victims in the Uruguayan criminal procedure reform.
