Summary
An essay by Diana Márquez that proposes breaking offenses down and looking at crimes against sexual integrity with data, beyond rage and the demand for revenge. She draws on Nils Christie and his definition of punitiveness, and goes through Argentine statistics from 2002 to 2022 on complaints, convictions, and the prison population. She then discusses five myths about those who commit these offenses: high recidivism, irrecoverability, mental illness, prior victimization, and the idea that they happen between strangers. She asks what to do with convicted persons from a restorative approach. It includes a video interview.
