Summary

An essay by Diana Márquez, written in the first person plural from Víctimas por la Paz, on what victims need once the sentence has been handed down. It distinguishes procedural truth from a narrative and intimate truth, and lists needs: asking questions of the person who caused the harm, being listened to as persons and not as witnesses, obtaining acknowledgment of the harm and a reparation that is not limited to money. It distinguishes procedural from substantive remorse and presents the goal of becoming the protagonists of one's own life again. It is useful for those who accompany victims in judicial or restorative processes.
