Summary

A statistical study on the proportion of detainees without a conviction in Argentina, jurisdiction by jurisdiction. Using the prison censuses of the Sistema Nacional de Estadísticas sobre Ejecución de la Pena (SNEEP) from 2002 to 2016, it compares the evolution of each province and of the federal system, places the country in the regional context, and relates the data to the procedural reforms of each jurisdiction. It concludes that there is still a way to go before those reforms are reflected in the procedural status of the incarcerated population. It is useful for those researching pretrial detention and the use of prison in Argentina.
