Summary
A reflection on the Victims' Law of the province of Buenos Aires (2020) from the experience of Víctimas por la Paz. It points out that the word reparation appears in only one article of the law and argues that the success of any victims' law is measured when a victim can ask what they need in order to feel repaired, and not how many years the offender will spend in prison. It criticizes the criminal justice system's binary response, links direct violence to structural violence, and proposes incorporating the restorative approach into the accompaniment of victims.
