Summary

New Zealand's law on the rights of victims of crime. It sets out principles for the treatment of victims, access to services, the right to information about the proceedings and to notification about the offender, victim impact statements, and victims' participation in parole. Section 9 provides that if a victim asks to meet the offender to resolve issues relating to the offense, court staff, police, or probation must refer the request to someone who can arrange and facilitate a restorative meeting, if resources allow. Useful for studying victims' access to restorative justice as a right.
