Summary
A declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 40/34 of November 29, 1985. It has two parts: one on victims of crime and one on victims of abuse of power. The first defines victims and deals with access to justice and fair treatment, restitution, compensation, and assistance; it also provides for the use of informal mechanisms, such as mediation, to facilitate conciliation and redress.
