Summary

A report in the CNJ's Justiça Pesquisa series, carried out by the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco, on the application of the Maria da Penha Law more than ten years after its entry into force and on retributive and restorative practices in domestic violence courts. With a quantitative phase based on case files and a qualitative phase involving focus groups and interviews with judges and with women experiencing violence, it covered cities in all five regions, including Recife, Maceió, Belém, Brasília, and Porto Alegre. It contributes empirical data to the Brazilian debate on the use of restorative justice in cases of violence against women.
