Summary
A law amending the Uruguayan Código del Proceso Penal (Ley 19.293) and adding Book VI, on alternative ways of resolving criminal conflict. Articles 393 to 396 regulate the reparation agreement, material or symbolic, which the accused person and the victim may sign, including through mediation or conciliation, and which the judge reviews at a hearing with the participation of the Public Prosecution Service. They set out timing, admissibility, procedure and revocation. The following articles deal with effects, limitation and confidentiality of evidence. It is useful for prosecutors, defence counsel and criminal mediation teams.
