Summary

New Zealand's sentencing law. Its purposes and principles include taking into account the outcomes of restorative processes that have occurred or may occur. It requires the court to consider offers, agreements, and measures of reparation by the offender when determining the sentence, and section 24A requires the District Court to adjourn proceedings before sentencing, where there has been a guilty plea and there are victims, to determine whether a restorative process is appropriate and to allow it to take place. Useful for analyzing how restorative justice is integrated into the sentencing stage.
